    The Interview

    About Madiha

Did you do any Egyptian Movies?

No. The reason I didn't is because the part they were going to give me in any Egyptian movie was always as someone society looks down on. They don't put the dancer in a respectable position in the story. They always wanted me to be the mistress to someone in high society, never a part of high society. My background and my dance is high society. I refused to do [these movies] because I look at this dance as a respectable art and if all the big dance stars in Egypt did the same and refused these parts, it would change the image of dancers. I appeared in a Persian movie, a Japanese movie? because they put me in a respectable part. People are always putting the dancer down, why? The dance is not a low thing.

How would you describe yourself? What makes you happy?

When I help people, I am like a candle. I burn myself to give light to others.

    What makes you angry?

    People that are ungrateful.
